Chaqui Z is a superb stallion and one of the most successful sons of Chacco Blue. He has earned top results spanning his entire career. As a youngster in Europe, he was a finalist in the World Breeding Championships at Zangersheide at ages 5, 6, and 7. Chaqui was imported to the US by Spy Coast Farm at the end of his 7YO year and partnered with Shane Sweetnam of Sweet Oak Farm until his retirement in 2021. His first year in America he had success in Wellington in the 8 year old division and won the CSI2* New Albany Classic, which was his first international Grand Prix outing.

By the time he was 9 years old, he had competed in two Nations Cups representing Ireland and had placed 2nd and 3rd at World Cup Qualifiers in Washington and Spruce Meadows. Chaqui continued to progress with Sweetnam and they finished in the top three in the Grand Prix's during both weeks of Kentucky Spring in 2016, jumped clear in the Falsterbo Nations Cup for Ireland, 6th in the Hamptons Grand Prix, 4th at the World Cup in Toronto, and 1st in the Lexington Grand Prix at the Kentucky World Cup Show.

2017 to 2019 were major years for Chaqui Z. He went double clear to help claim gold for Team Ireland at the 2017 European Show Jumping Championships in Goteborg as well as clear rounds in Nations Cups at Falsterbo and Rome. Chaqui and Sweetnam were also on the winning Nations Cup team in Wellington and later that same week won the CSIO4* Grand Prix. Other results include Team Ireland 7th in the team competition at the 2018  World Equestrian Games, no rails both rounds of the Aachen Nations Cup, 2nd and 4th with Team Ireland in the CSIO5* Grand Prix in Samorin and La Baule, winner of the American Gold Cup Qualifier, high placings in the Lexington CSI4*, Prijs Knokke-Heist CSI5*, and Washington World Cup as well as members of the Global Champions League winning team in Prague with the Shanghai Swans.

Despite a limited show schedule in 2020 due to COVID-19, Chaqui Z finished 2nd at the CSIO4* in Wellington and 4th in the CSI3* in Tryon. He was then able to focus more on his breeding career with many mare owners taking advantage of his fresh availability. Due to the popularity of Chaqui Z as a breeding sire, Shane and Spy Coast Farm decided to retire Chaqui Z to stud in 2021, in order for him to concentrate solely on influencing the next generation of American bred sport horses.

Chaqui Z’s sire, the late Chacco-Blue, won the jumping index at his German stallion performance test and won over 30 young horse jumping classes judged on style and ability. Chacco-Blue produced progeny with modern style, scope, technique and blood. His dam’s sire, Quinar, was a top performer at the 1997 Holsteiner stallion selection. Quinar is the result of the well-tested combination of Quidam de Revel with a Holsteiner mare; other stallions with similar breeding include Quaprice Z, Quite Easy, Quantum and Verdi.

Chaqui Z has a young crop on the ground that are very well balanced, athletic, and have incredibly kind temperaments. They are easy to start and eager to learn when started undersaddle.  His oldest offspring in the EU are competing up to 1.60m. Semen has been exported to the EU and since retiring, Chaqui has had full books in the US. We look forward to seeing their impact in the show ring in the coming years!

Chaqui lets the mare influence the size of the foal, so he will not add size. He is refining as well. He is a great option for a blood type mare to help her rideability/temperament.
