"Throughout my equestrian career, I have been fortunate to sit on some of the best animals in our sport: Careful, scopey, intelligent athletes. Out of all of them, Pacific des Essarts has always stood out as my favorite to ride and the full package."
- Jennifer Gates, owner. Full quote below
Pacific des Essarts was a consistent and experienced international competitor during his career. He was imported to the U.S. by Evergate Stables, LLC in 2017 and achieved clean rounds and top placings with owner/rider Jennifer Gates. They were 3rd in both the Hermes U25 team event and 3rd SJHOF High AO Classic this year and were 3rd $25K GP Del Mar and 2nd Del Mar J/AO Jumper Challenge in 2017. Previously he jumped to several Grand Prix wins with Martin Fuchs and Anna-Julia Kontio including 1st CSI5* 2016 Paris-Grand Palais; 1st CSI5* W 2016 Zurich, 1st CSI3* 2016 Selva di Val Gardena, 2nd CSI5* 2016 Hong Kong, 2nd CSI4* 2016 Ascona, 1st CSI3* 2015 Ascona, 2nd CSI3* 2015 Humlikon, and 3rd CSI5* W 2015 Madrid. In 2019 he was retired to stud here at Spy Coast Farm.
Pacific des Essarts is by the famous stallion, Diamant de Semilly, the number one leading WBFSH sire for the past several years. Diamant is the sire of two of Harry Smolder’s top mounts, both stallions, Don VHP and Emerald. Countless other CSIO5* winners by Diamant de Semilly including Quickly de Kreisker, Muscaris d'Ariel, Deauvelle S, Quointreau un Prince, Street of Diamonds, and Elivs ter Putte. He has sired over 100 approved stallions and is even listed in the top 20 of the eventing sires on the WBFSH. Pacific des Essarts dam, Cybele des Essarts, produced another successful 1.60m offspring, Kanouk des Essarts, with rider Jill Smits.
Looking back farther in Pacific’s pedigree, you will find some of the best French blood in his great grandsires. Grand Veneur (Amour du Bois) twice, Elf III (Ibraham), and Fend L’Air (Amour du Bois). These are foundational French sires that were influential in the development of today’s most winning show jumpers.
Pacific des Essarts has had a very limited foal crop, but his older offspring are showing tremendous talent competing up to 1.45m and 1.50m in the EU.
"Throughout my equestrian career, I have been fortunate to sit on some of the best animals in our sport: Careful, scopey, intelligent athletes. Out of all of them, Pacific des Essarts has always stood out as my favorite to ride and the full package. Not only did he possess the scope and quality necessary to compete at the top level, but his temperament and disposition made him a true pleasure to work with. He was soft on the flat, responsive to leg, eager to jump any fence (and any distance) I put him to, and overall the most pleasurable ride. He had blood and took me as a rider without being overbearing or too strong, and always responded to command without any attitude. He had a pure respect and willingness to listen to his rider.
Most of all, his character shone through in every aspect of his life. He was a favorite of everyone in our barn who interacted with him, whether on the ground, doing flatwork or in the competition arena. We could not be more excited to see our favorite horse pass down such valuable traits to his progeny. His offspring (ages 6-7) already share his characteristic talent and heart. I am eager to breed my own competition mares to him once they are in that stage of life, and am honored to work with Spy Coast Farm to provide his high quality semen to US-based breeders. I couldn’t recommend or vouch for this stunning, intelligent, talented stallion any more than I wholeheartedly am today."
