Community Volunteer Opportunities
As part of their internship experience, students are encouraged to give back to the equine community through volunteer work. Each student has the opportunity to dedicate a half-day during their program to volunteer at either Central Kentucky Riding for Hope (CKRH) or the Secretariat Center, two nationally recognized non-profit organizations located at the Kentucky Horse Park.

  • Central Kentucky Riding for Hope (CKRH): CKRH provides equine-assisted activities and therapies to individuals with physical, cognitive, emotional, or social challenges. By volunteering, students gain firsthand exposure to the transformative impact horses can have beyond sport and performance, while assisting with therapeutic riding lessons and program support.

  • The Secretariat Center: Dedicated to the retraining and rehoming of off-the-track Thoroughbreds, the Secretariat Center showcases adoptable horses and prepares them for successful second careers. Students volunteering here learn about Thoroughbred aftercare, training methods, and the importance of responsible transitions for retired racehorses.

These volunteer experiences not only enrich the internship program but also help students develop a broader perspective of the equine industry
